Grant funding from the Casco Bay Estuary Partnership Habitat Protection Fund has supported PRLT’s successful efforts to establish the Mill Brook Preserve in Westbrook. The growing conservation area has been made possible thanks to the generosity of local residents, who are donating land to PRLT because they want to see the stream corridor protected in perpetuity. From the water’s edge, Preserve visitors can watch as thousands of alewives pass by en route to their spawning habitat in Highland Lake each spring. The Mill Brook/Highland Lake alewife run is currently the largest anadromous fish run in the Casco Bay Watershed. Read the April 24 Maine Sunday Telegram story here.
